Editor's Note
As we move into the final quarter of 2012 we are working on two great events. Firstly our Directors Only event on 18th October where we'll be looking at how to grow your business. We have three successful recruiters talking about their own experiences, plus the usual mix of group learning and networking opportunities. There is still time to sign up at http://recnet18oct.eventbrite.co.uk.
We're also working on our End of Year Conference; The Recruitment Industry Conference. It takes place on 7th November and in the evening we are co-hosting the prestigious National Online Recruitment Awards.

Nothing feels more like Christmas morning than attending an industry trade show or conference. Considering the hundreds of potential candidates and employers under one roof – plus the vast amount of information floating around the hall – it’s easy to grasp the enormity of the gift.
Some of my most enduring relationships and memorable placements had their genesis in a crowded booth, an entry foyer or food court in a Chicago, Houston or Cleveland convention center. And over time, I’ve found ways to organize my time and exploit the opportunities found in a trade show’s frenetic, networking-friendly environment. Here are 10 ways to get the most out of your visit:
Last week we ran a very popular article about Managing for Results: The Early Evaluation by Steve Finkel; great ideas for how to check your recruiters are performing at an early stage.

Internal Recruitment Functions Dispute the Need to Financially Incentivse their Teams
"Following consultation with Internal Senior Recruitment Leads at a recent Resourcing Think Tank held at SAP, Oasis HR presents findings highlighting a clear difference in opinion regarding financially incentivising in-house recruiters. Approximately 30% of those present felt that incentivising internal recruiters was unnecessary compared to the remainder of the group, who believed that monetary reward positively impacted on the performance of their teams. Those who didn’t financially incentivise their teams reported that if individuals needed to receive this type of reward in order to perform, then they weren’t really a desirable type of employee. Additionally, it was noted that encouraging internal-recruiters to hit targets for monetary gain shifts their focus from quality to quantity. However, others involved in this discussion reported a positive experience with this form of incentivisation and highlighted great challenges with expecting staff to hit KPIs without the chance of an increased pay packet."
