Had a quick look at Google for Jobs this morning. Pop yourself in the shoes of your job seeker and see how it feels. Will be reporting later on a white paper from Lee Biggins and the team at CV-Library Ltd. I also know that Simon Lewis, Giles Guest and Morgan Lobb are all over this
From my point of view, the impact will be on the balance of SEO work vs content creation & community / brand building for recruitment companies – if everyone starts with Google Job Search (not general search), the optimisation of vacancy listings will be more important than generating organic traffic. We may soon be debating 'how can we get Google to use a brighter colour for MY apply button?' rather than 'how can I make people find my blog?'
I've just done a very quick search of my own using the Louises video above and the thing that strikes me is that , for my search criteria all the jobs that appeared were from other job sites. So if the pull from other job sites is comprehensive enough for a job seeker - will there be any need to visit the job sites individually? Also, some of the jobs give me a choice of job sites with which to apply for the job. What implications will this have for job seeker traffic going direct to the job sites?

I spoke to a connection that works for a large competitor and they said that until Google hires a sales team and starts trying to monetise it then they weren't that worried. I thought it was an interesting point of view. Time will tell as we know data is king and Google have a ton of that...
I know from experience that it's important to get beta feedback about any jobs platform or recruitment site, Google can just do it with a bigger audience, every time Microsoft or Google roll out a development it's generally very poor until several million people give them the feedback to make it better. Congratulations you are now part of their beta-test panel, let's hope they pay you in kind...
Without guessing ahead of time, I reckon this will be a significant topic for the NORAs.
It is THE subject that everybody is falling over themselves to debate, discuss, show videos of and to dissect, yet only time will tell it this truly something to talk about and consider or if merely something of minor concern.
Thanks for sharing Louise - we're looking forward to sharing our whitepaper with you!
