Louise Triance & UK Recruiter

Can I take a moment to recognise the towering giant of recruitment community networking in the UK, that is Louise Triance? As founder and MD of UKRecruiter, Louise practically invented recruitment networking events in 2000, and has continued that unbroken run to this day.

Proclaimed (usually by me) as the Queen of UK Recruitment, Louise has produced the most essential weekly newsletter for the recruitment agency sector every single week for 16 years, and has now hit her 800th edition. Let me say that again - eight hundred newsletters over sixteen years!

In a time when the internet appeared to threaten the very existence of traditional recruitment agencies, Louise launched her regular networking events in London in 2001. Frankly, up until then it was extremely difficult to get recruiters from rival agencies into the same room, but once they did, they realised how much benefit could be derived from knowing each other better, collaborating, and learning from one another. A great many successful firms were born out of those events, and a few brand new internet businesses were regular attendees too. I had just launched AlljobsUK, and the National Online Recruitment Awards, Lee Biggins from the newly born CV-Library, Dan McGuire had a new business called Broadbean, and Ian Partington who built a number of fantastically successful jobs and now runs the Simply Jobs Group.

Throughout all this time Louise has worked to support new recruitment agencies in the very earliest startup phase, emerging technology companies, and suppliers with entirely new ways of making the hiring process for employers and candidates radically more efficient. Louise now holds regular networking events for owners and directors of recruitment firms, large and small, and for the past 5 years has established the UK Recruiter Technology Showcase events as virtually mandatory for tech suppliers to meet and engage with progressive agencies looking to continually evolve and grow.

As can be seen from the multitude of strands on the UK Recruiter website, managing all of this can't be easy, but maintaining all of this for such a long period is an outstanding achievement, especially for a relatively small business.

Whether you know it or not (and you should) the UK recruitment industry owes a huge debt of gratitude to the work done by UK Recruiter and Louise Triance over the past 17 years and 800 Newsletters.

I remember chatting to people on the UK Recruiter forum back in 2002. And without Louise's "Recruiters who tweet" article in April 2009 the last 8 years may have been very different for me! So well done Louise!!
